What is SB 1215?
SB 1215 (California Public Resources Code §42466.2) is an amendment to the Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 that regulates Covered Battery-Embedded Products (CBEPs). The law imposes specific financial and reporting obligations on retailers and manufacturers for products sold in California that contain batteries not designed to be easily removed by the user with commonly available household tools.
What are Covered Battery-Embedded Products (CBEPs)?
A product is considered a covered battery-embedded product if the battery is not easily removable, typically meaning it requires more than commonly available household tools. Covered battery-embedded products require collection and recycling at their end of life.
Which products are covered by this notice?
Cervélo bikes may contain one of the following covered battery-embedded products:
SRAM
- EC Blip B1 AXS Wireless
HAMMERHEAD
- BC Karoo GPS Bike Computer
FAZUA
- Ride 60 Energy 430
What is the recycling fee requirement?
The fee amount is determined by CalRecycle (California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery).
- Cervélo retailers are responsible to collect the recycling fee from consumers at the time of sale in the State of California.
- The consumer's receipt must show the recycling fee as a separate line item.
- Cervélo retailers are required to report and remit fees to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.
