The Road to Kona: Susie Cheetham
Susie’s trademark sense of humour shines through in her Instagram profile. As well as being a “baboon hater” — and we’d love to hear that story — “6th at Kona a few times” is how she describes herself.
This is certainly accurate, as the Briton followed up her sixth-place performance at the 2015 Ironman World Championship with an identical placing two years later.
The 2018 season has been another strong one for the Cervelo P5X rider, who added a pair of second-place finishes to her palmeres. These included a fourth consecutive podium at Ironman South Africa in April, and another at Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg in June, where she shattered the course record by finishing in 4:15:59.
Since then, she’s focused on “getting prepped for the business end of the season.” Her strong form in training has her brimming with confidence — at least, if her Twitter account is anything to go by. “Kona accommodation booked,” she tweeted before her Luxembourg podium, and then showed off her trademark sense of humour by adding: “Then told by my dad it cost the same as when he bought his first house. Thanks Dad.”
