The Road to Kona: Ruedi Wild

After finishing 21st and 16th in 2016 and 2017, Ruedi Wild is poised to break through this year at the Ironman World Championship.

Despite living and training in temperate Switzerland, the globetrotting Cervelo athlete has a penchant for prevailing in hot and humid conditions like those at Kona. He made the podium at Ironman 70.3 Dubai already this year, and has also triumphed in tropical spots such as Taiwan, the Philippines and Thailand.

Ruedi is also coming off what he calls “one of the most successful achievements of my triathlon career” at the 2018 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Denmark. “I went all out and gave everything,” he says of his silver-medal performance.

Now, after months of training in the Alps — where he came in second at Ironman 70.3 Austria — Ruedi is primed to charge into the Top 10 on the biggest stage of the year.
