Xena's season is off to hot start

Caroline Steffen returned to racing in 2018 by breaking records. After 3 years away from Ironman, she broke the course record at Ironman Western Australia. In 2019, she seems to be rolling along getting quicker and stronger and her competitors must be taking notice.

Her recent 2nd place finish at Ironman 70.3 Davao was a hot battle between friend, rival and fellow mom, Radka Kahlefeldt. It was their second meeting in 2019 after going head-to-head in Geelong last month. While Xena faded in their first meeting due to injury, this time the two ran step-for-step until Kalfheldt was finally able to use her ITU speed to pull away in the closing kilometers.

While Xena may have missed the victory, the signs are there that she's racing as fast as ever and her attack on Kona this year should make a few women worried. The former Kona runner-up is a veteran of the sport and knows it's still early days.

"Walking away with a 2nd place - we’re still in the build up. Loooong season ahead" was her message post-race on Instagram.

But if she's racing this fast now, in 33°c heat no less, we can only imagine what she can do after some hard training with her new super-bike in her arsenal.
