Caroline Steffen's nickname is "Xena", a testament to her warrior-like approach to racing. She is the winner of 23 Ironman 70.3 races and a multiple ITU Long Course World Champion, and has twice finished second at the Ironman World Championships in Kona. Born in Switzerland and now living in Australia, Caroline has been heavily involved in the development of Cervélo's triathlon and TT bikes.
What is your proudest sporting achievement?
My consistency over the last 8 years of racing. I barely had any major hiccups like injuries or bad seasons (touching wood right now). I always bounced back and found a way to my best and that's something I am proud of.
What is your proudest non-sporting achievement?
My son Xander! Pregnancy put my body through the most incredible changes - and I loved every single one of them. To hold my son in my arms means the world to me. Looking at him, I still can’t believe I made this cute, happy, funny little creature.
What do you enjoy most about riding bikes?
I love to explore new places and regions. When I'm back in Switzerland, I sometimes just get on my bike and ride and explore, then take the train back home.
What is your favourite Cervélo bike, and why?
My favourite time trial bike is the P5. It's a very smooth-looking bike, which has everything that I require and nothing which is unnecessary. It is easy to handle in corners, crosswinds, and descents. And of course, it is simply faster.
What are you goals this year?
I want to be ready and win races again after having my son. I will probably will stick to 70.3 for this year … but you never know. We will see!
