The season so far: Susie Cheetham
Susie Cheetham is picking up right where she left off in 2017, when she earned five Ironman and Ironman 70.3 podiums, set a course record at the Ironman South American Championships, and came in sixth at the Ironman World Championships.
The Cervélo P5X rider has already added a pair of second-place finishes to her palmeres in 2018, including a fourth consecutive podium at Ironman South Africa in April and more recently at Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg. After a strong swim in the Moselle River and the second-fastest ride through Luxembourg's hilly wine country, Susie’s dual with eventual winner Lisa Huetthaler came down to the run, where another second-fastest performance saw her shatter the previous course record by finishing in 4:15:59.
2017 While settling for second “isn’t what I would have liked,” the race was “a great indicator of where my form is going into Ironman Austria,” Susie said afterwards, adding that her best-ever wattage output in an Ironman 70.3 event delivered rides and runs that were five and seven minutes quicker, respectively, than in 2017.
Susie’s impressive form has her brimming with confidence — at least, if her Twitter account is anything to go by. “Kona accommodation booked,” she tweeted before the race, and then showed off her trademark sense of humour by adding: “Then told by my dad it cost the same as when he bought his first house. Thanks Dad.”
