Boasson Hagen solos to victory
Team Dimension Data finished off the 2017 Tour of Britain with a stage win for Edvald Boasson Hagen.
This storyline is starting to sound familiar: After two photo-finishes and a win that was stripped by relegation, Boasson Hagen came through in the clutch again on Sunday on his Team Edition Cervélo S5.
A wet and slippery Stage 8 from Worcester to Cardiff saw many riders try to get away over the final kilometers. This included EBH, who was brought back in despite a powerful attack with 7km to go. At this point, all signs pointed to another bunch sprint — but Boasson Hagen had other ideas. With 3km remaining, the Norwegian forged ahead of the peloton and never looked back.
“It feels good to finally get this victory,” said Boasson Hagen, who jumped up to second in the final GC standings. “We had a plan from the beginning of the day for me to try to attack with two or three kilometers to go. It was great to be at the front and I’m happy I moved up to second place overall. I’ve had a nice week with the team and I’m happy to finish it off like this.”
