FVL excels on the Alpe
After surging into the lead at T1, Frederik Van Lierde took total control of his first Alpe d’Huez Triathlon, winning it in 5:59:52. His closest rival was more than six minutes back.
As he often does, Freddie made it look easy. But according to the 2013 Ironman World Champion it was anything but: "It's true that I managed my efforts well, knowing the gaps between athletes, but I can assure you that it was hard, even very hard at times.”
The pain was worth it, he added, when he saw his wife and children at the finish line. “The most enjoyable thing today was to evolve in front of my whole family.”
On Sept. 16, the Belgian will return to France to compete in Ironman 70.3 Nice, and then, just under a month later, he will vie for the ultimate prize: The Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
