We got a C3 in the box to take some pictures with earlier this spring. The idea was for us to shoot the bike and then send it back. My normal bike is the R5, and I've always been a huge fan of it. I wasn't super excited about an 'endurance' bike or even discs. I fancy myself a fast rider (at least in my dreams), so bikes like the R5 and S5 are like music to my vain ears.

Normally, when I get on a bike, it takes me some time to feel at home, to sort of move around, make my nest, and feel comfortable on it. I think I'm pickier than most, but once I get comfortable on a bike, I can ride it forever.

With the C3 though, it felt like I had come home from many months on the road to my perfect little place. Everything felt right on it for me.

I pedaled, and it felt right. The comfort of the bike was immediately apparent, which was appreciated, but I didn't think too much of it at first. I also immediately noticed those gloriously fat 28s on the super wide Hed Ardennes rims. I'm a fan of wide tires, and this bike allows for that and then some.

The thing that really jumped out at me though was how it handled through turns. I don't know what it is, but I've never ridden a bike that feels so good through a turn in my life. On all other bikes I've ridden, I feel like I'm perched on top of the bike, steering down on it. With the C3, I feel like I'm IN the bike, so instead of steering down on something below me, I feel like I'm steering within the bike itself, which gives this amazing feeling of attachment to the bike - a feeling of oneness.

I flew into turns, grabbed a finger of brakes, and dove with ease into each turn. It's a joy to descend on.

I've never felt more confident on a fast, curving descent than I do on this bike. I don't care what the reasons are, I just know that THIS is good, THIS is the way it should be - for me - I obviously can't speak for everyone on this, but this bike speaks my language.

So, Cervelo engineers - whatever you did with this bike - thank you - I love you.

As an aside: my oh my I'm sold on disc brakes - braking is so EASY - I never understood how much effort goes into braking until I didn't have to put any effort in at all. I can be going down a 15% descent with a switchback at the bottom, and instead of the white knuckle, death grip brake grab, I pull that lever ever so gently, and all is well. We do a lot of climbing and descending, so to feel effortless on descent after descent throughout the day is noticeable and hugely appreciated. I'm not trying to sell the world on discs, but in my mind, I've immigrated to Discland, and I don't want to go back to the Old World.

I guess we're still supposed to send the bike back, and we're planning to, but it's probably going to take us a long time to find a box, and shipping from Europe is such a pain. Maybe I'll just have to hold on to it for a little while longer. :-)
