Xena’s Cebu streak alive at five
Caroline Steffen earned her fifth-straight Ironman 70.3 victory in Cebu, Philippines, on Sunday when she claimed the 2016 Asia-Pacific Championship.
The Swiss star, a.k.a. “the Queen of Cebu,” trailed by 1:02 after the swim, but gained a narrow lead on her custom-painted Cervélo P5. After her 2:19:04 bike split — the fastest in her field — Caroline locked down victory with the second-fastest run, winning in 4:16:19 and beating her nearest rival by more than two minutes.
"I'm proud to be fit and healthy and to win in Cebu for a fifth time in a row," said Caroline, who last won the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific title in 2010. "It means a lot to me. It is an absolutely stunning course, but the wind did not make it easy on the way back. It was brutal...but I enjoyed it."
