She was one of the award winners at the 62th annual British Sports Awards, a star-studded gala lunch staged on 8 December at The Brewery in London by the Sports Journalists' Association and sponsored by UK Sport.<br /> <br />Having become the first British woman to ever win a Time Trial world title in Geelong in September, Emma was presented with the SJA's Committee Award by former swimming world champion and star of Strictly Come Dancing, Mark Foster. Sir Michael Parkinson opened the ceremony that also saw awards go to Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomery, champion heptathlete Jessica Ennis and jockey AP McCoy.<br /> <br />Emma was interviewed on stage by ITV presenter, Jim Rosenthal. She said: "Cycling is really a team sport so to be recognised as an individual like this is unexpected. Winning the world title has been the highlight of my career so far.<br /> <br />"Women's cycling doesn't get that much press coverage in general so I'm delighted to have been recognised by the Sports Journalists Association in winning this award."<br /> <br />Winning the world title capped a fine year for Pooley, who won the Fleche Wallonne in April, the Tour de l'Aude in May, the British Road Race Championships title in June as well as the Grand Prix de Plouay in September. She returned to Zurich immediately following the ceremony to continue work on her PhD in geotechnical engineering. <br /> <br />Emma will head to Perth, Australia for winter training after Christmas before commencing the 2011 season, when she is set to represent the Garmin-Cervelo team.http://www.cervelo.com/en_us/news-blog/testteam/article/emma-pooley-receives-top-award-from-british-sports-media/2617/Thu, 09 Dec 2010 05:00:00 GMTCervelo TestTeam's Daniel Teklehaymanot - two titles in two dayshttp://www.cervelo.com/en_us/news-blog/testteam/article/cervelo-testteams-daniel-teklehaymanot--two-titles-in-two-days/2609/Eritrean talent and Cervelo TestTeam stagiaire, Daniel Teklehaymanot took victory in the African Time Trial Championships today in commanding fashion, 51 seconds clear of second place and a full two minutes 24 ahead of third.<br /><br /> Just yesterday Teklehaymanot was part of the successful Eritrean team time trial effort on what was his 22nd birthday. Philippe Gilbert (BEL- Omega Pharma-Lotto) took his second successive victory in the race, dropping Michele Scarponi (ITA- Androni Giocattoli) on the final climb of the San Fermo to win the final classic of the 2010 season. Scarponi finished 12 seconds behind Gilbert and Pablo Lastras Garcia (ESP-Caisse d'Epargne) placed third. <br /><br />&ldquo;We had a plan today, first to bring Xavier Tondo (ESP) into a good position for the final and then at the start to put some of the other riders in the breakaway but it didn&rsquo;t happen, and the weather played a big part, making it really hard. You could see with the other teams that not many riders came to the finish line, so it didn&rsquo;t make any difference,&rdquo; said Jean-Paul Van Poppel, sports director. &ldquo; After the Madonna del Ghisallo, he got caught by the cold. A guy like Xavier is very skinny without much reserve and at that point he was empty. So there was not too much left, nor was there support from the rest of the team. Volodimir Gustov (UKR) crashed and couldn&rsquo;t go on and the other riders also left the race for different reasons. In the end a plan is only successful if your key rider can do what he has to do, even if the team is not up to it. Between the weather and the length &ndash; 260 kilometers, it was a super hard race. The team&rsquo;s spirit was good at the start but after 200 km, the legs were empty and the cold was hampering Xavier too much and together that left him little chance for a good result.&rdquo; <br /><br />&ldquo;I felt pretty good today till the Madonna and after that I was just empty,&rdquo; explained Xavier Tondo, after the race. &ldquo; It is a shame because I kept training after the Vuelta and I expected a bit more today, but it can happen.&rdquo;<br /><br /> <strong>Giro di Lombardia Results: Milano - Como 260.0 km</strong><br /><br /> <table style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;" border="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td style="width: 35px;">1st</td> <td style="width: 265px;">Philippe Gilbert (BEL)</td> <td style="width: 100px;">6:46:32</td> <td style="width: 150px;">38.37 km/h (23.84 mph)</td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 35px;">2nd</td> <td style="width: 265px;">Michele Scarponi (ITA)</td> <td style="width: 100px;">+0.12</td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 35px;">3rd</td> <td style="width: 265px;">Pablo Lastras Garcia (ESP)</td> <td style="width: 100px;">+0.55</td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 35px;">4th</td> <td style="width: 265px;">Jakob Fuglsang (DEN)</td> <td style="width: 100px;">+1.08</td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 35px;">5th</td> <td style="width: 265px;">Vincenzo Nibali (ITA)</td> <td style="width: 100px;">s.t.</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>http://www.cervelo.com/en_us/news-blog/testteam/article/cervelo-testteam-rides-last-race-at-giro-di-lombardia/2604/Sat, 16 Oct 2010 04:00:00 GMTHushovd debuts World Champion’s jersey at Giro del Piemontehttp://www.cervelo.com/en_us/news-blog/testteam/article/hushovd-debuts-world-champions-jersey-at-giro-del-piemonte/2603/&nbsp;In the second to last appearance of Cerv&eacute;lo TestTeam, Thor Hushovd (NOR) was the star of the moment debuting his world champion jersey at the start line today of the 96th edition of the Giro del Piemonte, in the Apennine Mountains in Italy. We had a rider in that breakaway, Spaniard Oscar Pujol, but we didn&rsquo;t know that until after the group had been taken back by the bunch, after building up an impressive eight minute lead. The break group with about 30 kilometers to go actually took the wrong road following a descent,&rdquo; explained Marcello Albasini, sports director. &ldquo; At the La Morra climb another group of seven riders went on the attack but they too were pulled back by Lotto just before the start of the 18 kilometer finishing circuit around Cossato. Among the large starting field both the men and women of Cerv&eacute;lo TestTeam will be well represented at the start line, riding for their home country in the different races. <br /><br /><strong>Men's Team</strong> <br />Six male riders (details see below), have been nominated from their national cycling federations to compete Down Under. 2009 Giro stage winner Ignatas Konovalovas (LTU) will compete in both senior races - the time trial and the road race. Sprint ace Thor Hushovd (NOR) will participate in the road race as will teammates Jeremy Hunt (GBR), Ted King (USA) and Dominique Rollin (CAN). The stagaire Daniel Teklehaymanot (ERI) will ride in his country's colors in the U23 men road race. <br /><br />Beside the World Championships, another squad of Cerv&eacute;lo riders will be competing at the Sparkassen Giro M&uuml;sterland on Sunday October 3. Marcel Wyss (SUI) returns to racing after a long break due to an injury suffered back in June. The Sparkassen Giro is a very popular end of season race in Germany. The 208 km course will turn out many cheering spectators on the German National day. <br /><br /><strong>Women's Team <br /></strong>Most of the women riders on Cerv&eacute;lo TestTeam will conclude their season in Melbourne. Twelve riders were selected to ride for their national teams, presenting a formidable challenge to the rest of the starting field. "After the feeding zone there was a pretty hard climb, catching the break on the top of the climb. We decided that he can have a bit of freedom today. What a great ride, he got into the breakaway. Unfortunately, he was not able to cross the line first," said Cerv&eacute;lo sport director Philippe Mauduit. "It's nice for a guy who is always giving 100 percent for the others to have a chance. Behind, Liquigas was giving a steady pace, then the sprinter teams started to work. Garmin, Columbia and Lotto were collaborating against four boys, it's impossible."<br /><br />Philippe Gilbert (BEL) won his second stage while Vincenzo Nibali (ITA) widened his grip on the leader's jersey as the bunch split up in the closing frenetic kilometers into the heart of historic Toledo. Cerv&eacute;lo's Xavier Tondo (SPA) and Carlos Sastre (SPA) remained sixth and ninth, respectively, but lost a few seconds at the finish line as the front pack splintered. "I told the boys to be careful today. It was a technical finish today. If you have a guy who is not able to follow the wheel, then the hole is getting bigger and then on the line you lose seconds. "Tomorrow we'll be climbing the Bola del Mundo and this is my last chance to try for a stage win in this Vuelta," Sastre said. "This is what I want and what I am aiming for."<br /><br />Cerv&eacute;lo will be aiming for the stage victory with Sastre and looking to improve the GC position of Tondo, who could still move into the top-5 overall, or perhaps even more if he's on a great day.<br />"We have to play both cards tomorrow. We are the only team with two boys in the top-10, we have a small advantage there. We can try to attack with one and a counter-attack with another, if it's possible, it will be ideal," Mauduit said. "Tomorrow will be the queen stage of the Vuelta. The top 10 riders can still almost finish on the podium, so everything is still in play. "We tried to make some moves but only two riders got off in the break, Cameron Meyer (AUS-Garmin) together with Pieter Jacobs (BEL-Topsport Vlaanderen). Like yesterday HTC-Columbia controlled the peloton and was able to bring back the bunch. Like yesterday the race ended in a bunch sprint. Tomorrow is the last stage and three of our riders here will ride their last race for Cerv&eacute;lo TestTeam."<br /><br /><strong>Stage 7 - Bury St. Edmunds - Colchester (152.3 km)</strong><br />1. It is Wild's 15th international victory this season. Wild beat Marianne Vos (NED) by two seconds and third place Judith Arndt (GER) by three. Teammate compatriot Regina Bruins also finished in the top ten in sixth place.<br /><br />"Today a time trail raced over 2.2 km, in wet weather because of the rain the whole day," said Kirsten after her victory. "My team mate Sarah D&uuml;ster (GER) crashed in the warm up so that made me a bit afraid. But the course itself was just up and down and I just gave it full gas and was able to win this short time trail. I am here actually to prepare myself as well as possible for the world championships, but I set my sights on this time trial and winning is always nice."<br /><br /><strong>Stage 4: Campi Bisenzio I.T.T.
