Wild second in bunch sprint

Kirsten Wild (NED) finished second today in the bunch sprint that capped off the third stage of the Holland Ladies Tour. Today’s stage in Gieten was won by Marianne Vos (NED - Nederland Bloeit). Third place went to Giorgia Bronzini (ITA- Gauss Rdz Ormu-Colnago).

“Today’s third stage was 107 km over three hard laps including a stretch over the cobbles and a small climb. That combined with a lot of rain made it a pretty hard race,” said Jean Paul van Poppel, sports director.“ There were a lot of attacks today and we were always there, but at the end with 5 km to the finish everything came together and we prepared the bunch sprint for Kirsten. There was one more attack by Emma Johansson (SWE-Red Sun) in the last kilometer but she didn’t make it and the bunch took here back with 500 meters to go. Vos had the ideal line in the final and won the sprint ahead of Kirsten.

In the course of the race today we also took some seconds on leader Martine Bras though Vos also gained 4 seconds on Kirsten. So as it now stands we are 44 seconds back from Bras, so things are still possible with four stages remaining one of them the time trial on Sunday. Marianne Vos seems our biggest opponent so all in all it is pretty exciting.”
