Theo Bos posts 4th again in the sprint

February 11, 2010 - Filed under: TestTeam
Cervélo TestTeam riders Theo Bos in fourth and Heinrich Haussler in eighth, once again finished in the top ten in today's fifth stage of the Tour of Qatar. The 142 kilometre stage from Lusail to Madinat Al Shamal was won by Tom Boonen (Quick Step), giving him his second stage win in this year's Tour.

Heading into the last kilometre the peloton chased back a group of 14 riders, (including TestTeam's Roger Hammond), that had broken away in the last 20 kilometres of the stage, setting the stage for the mass sprint. Theo Bos opened the sprint, but Boonen moved onto his wheel and was able to pass him in the last few meters. Second place went to Danilo Napolitano (Katusha) and third to Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky). Heinrich Haussler, who was aiming for another top place today, ended up in eighth position and still retains the sprinters jersey. Wouter Mol (Vacansoleil) finished with the lead group and retains the leader's jersey.

"We had an early attack today with six riders after 20 kilometres, Martin Reimer was in this group," said Jens Zemke. "Martin was the best placed rider in the group and that made it pretty easy for our guys in the bunch, but the peloton chased this group back after 100 kilometres in the lead. In the last 30 kilometres we had some wind and we started some action but unfortunately our other riders had to wait for Heinrich because he was not in the first group, although Roger Hammond was. Everything came together just before the final as we tried to bring our sprinters into the best position again. The result was another fourth place for Theo."
