Martin Reimer finishes top ten in 6th stage Tour of Austria

July 09, 2010 - Filed under: TestTeam
The sixth stage of the 62nd Tour of Austria from Deutschlandsberg to Laxenbrug finished in a mass arrival after the long 231.8 km course. The Cervélo train did the work for Martin Reimer (GER) and he paid them back for the effort with a 7th place finish in the race which was won by the German sprinter Andre Greipel. Robert Förster (GER) took second spot while Ben Swift (GBR) completed the podium today in third. In the overall ranking, Riccardo Ricco (ITA) stays in the lead and the TestTeam's Stefan Denifl (AUT) holds his 9th GC position.

"It was a super-long stage. We were riding over 231.8 km and in addition 10 km of it was neutralized," explained Jens Zemke, Sports Director. "The conditions on this long stage were also not very easy as it was quite thirsty weather with 33 C. I have no idea how many bottles the riders emptied today but I can tell you it was a lot. Today's race was dominated by four riders, who managed to build up a successful break away. But the peloton chased them back 15 km from the finish and Columbia set the pace so that a sprint arrival was guaranteed. We brought Martin in position and he had a good top ten result and Stefan Denifl stayed in his position in the GC. Tomorrow will be a decisive stage for the GC. We are hoping that Stefan will have a good time trial and can keep his position in the GC or even improve it."

The Tour of Austria heads into the final weekend with the seventh stage an individual time trial competition (26.3 km) from Podersdorf am Neusiedler See to Illmitz.
