Hammond 9th in GC

February 18, 2010 - Filed under: TestTeam
Today's 148 kilometre stage from Wattayat along the coast of the Gulf of Oman to Sultan Qaboos Stadium was won by Tom Boonen (Quick Step). The Belgium rider won it in a bunch sprint ahead of Juan José Haedo (ARG-Team Saxo Bank) and Michael Van Stayen (BEL-Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator) who finished third. Best result for a Cervélo TestTeam rider in today's stage was Dominique Rollin (CAN) who finished ninth.

The first and longest break today occurred after only 20 kilometres with Nikita Eskov (Katusha), Alessandro Ballan ( BMC Racing Team) and Matthe Pronk (Vacansoleil). They were brought back into the group with 13 kilometres to the finish.

"It was a pretty boring stage, today," said Jens Zemke, Sport Director. "It was only in the final with a couple of riders that it got kind of dangerous. The riders, for the most part, stayed out of any conflict. We are looking forward to the final stage tomorrow which is an individual time trial. We hope Martin Reimer, who is our best TT rider in this race, can do something. It has been good preparation here, because every day there is a bunch sprint and we have not had our big sprinters here, so everybody works extra hard. Every day is a gamble and every second is important."

Stage 5 : Wattayat - Sultan Qaboos Stadium (148 km)
1. Tom Boonen (Bel) Quick Step
2. Juan José Haedo (Arg) Team Saxo Bank
3. Michael Van Stayen (Bel) Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator
4. Tyler Farrar (USA) Garmin - Transitions
5. Edvald Boasson Hagen (Nor) Sky Pro Cycling Team
9. Dominique Rollin (Can) Cervélo TestTeam

I got confused myself. Hammond ninth in GC, Rollin ninth in stage. Now makes sense. Good show from all the team!

Oops! Little mistake in today's news title! Rollin is ninth, not Hammond.

Oncle Daniel.
