With just 12 days to go, the countdown is on to the second of this year's three Grand Tours. The 97th edition of the Tour de France begins on Saturday, July 3, in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The 2010 Tour will cover the traditional 21 stages, which will feature 1 prologue, 9 flat stages, 6 mountain stages with 3 summit finishes, 4 medium mountain stages and 1 long individual time trial before the race ends 3,600 km later in Paris on the Champs Elysées on Sunday, July 25.
The team has a great mix of experienced riders with various skills as sprinters, climbers and GC riders from which the final roster of nine athletes was chosen. Six of them rode the Tour de France in 2009 for Cervélo TestTeam. Carlos Sastre (ESP), 2008 Tour de France champion, and 2009 green jersey winner Thor Hushovd (NOR) will serve as the team captains. In addition, 2009 Tour de France stage winner Heinrich Haussler (GER), who just won a stage at the Tour de Suisse, will be an important rider in the team.
"We are fortunate to have many excellent riders who will be in good shape and ready for the Tour," said Joop Alberda, General Manager of Cervélo TestTeam. "We are very pleased that Carlos has been given the green light to participate in this year's Tour de France and that Thor and Heinrich have recovered well. We are now looking forward to an exciting three weeks of racing."

Looking forward to cheer for Team Cervelo at this year's Tour de France! This lineup has great chemistry and I'm pretty sure they will overcome all challenges!
Way to go CTT!!

Carlos has to learn to stay out of trouble...but judging from the Giro, he will be at it again...

What is it that makes people believe that Heinrich Haussler can climb with the best (King Carlos, Andy and Alberto C)??
He has never proven anything that could indicate that!
Half of our team climbs better than Heinrich!

I assume that the selectors feel that, in Tondo's case, a three week grand tour is a different proposition to a week-long stage race like Catalunya where he won a stage. Tondo clearly has loads of potential but struggled towards the closing stages of the Giro, abandoning before the end. Maybe the TdF is too soon for him ?

great lineup.. Heinrich and Carlos should be great GC contenders and hopefully
Thor can repeat in green!

Why no Tondo? He was a great help to Carlos in the Giro. With him they would have a great climber to help out Carlos in the mountains.

Carlos is our GC hope, not Heinrich!
From the forum:
My opinion: Biggest suprise for me must be that Xavier Tondo Volpini (ESP) didn't make the team.. Philip Deignan (IRL) just hasn't been good enough over the past weeks..

I thought Heinrich was racing under Australia this year, not Germany.
Surely he is our main GC hope, that's if he can stay in the bike.
Time for some revenge on Cav me thinks.

Great selection. Well balanced. Cannot wait to see Andreas and Jez protecting Carlos on the cobbles and putting some minutes into some other GC favorites.
This team could spring a surprise or two.. as well as fighting hard for Thors Green jersey.
Good luck to all.

Ye of little faith, Mr. Plimpton. Carlos has had a good rest after a strong Giro all whilst workin against an ailing back. This is a VERY strong team. I also would like to see Haussler and Hushovd give it a run. Come July 3rd, you'll find me rooting for the TestTeam.
P.S. - Where's Tondo in all of this??

Carl, They've got no GC contender. Sastre is a great riding, but he is past his prime.
