Denifl moves up to 7th in GC at Tour of Austria

Cervélo TestTeam's Stefan Denifl (AUT) rode a great individual time trial on the 26.3 km course around Podersdorf am Neusiedler See to finish 12th today in the seventh stage of the Tour of Austria. Denifl finished 1:20 behind the winner Joost Posthuma from the Netherlands. Second place went to the German Patrick Gretsch (10 seconds behind). Third place went to Artem Ovechkin from Russia (40 seconds behind). The race was overshadowed by a crash involving the GC leader Riccardo Ricco (ITA), who crashed with a motorbike. Though he was bleeding, Ricco finished the race and is still in the lead of the GC. With his excellent time trial today, Denifl moves up to seventh in the overall GC.

"We have reached our aim to stay in the GC top ten with Stefan," said a satisfied Jens Zemke, Sports Director. "It was a nice stage with a flat course though once again we had to fight against the heat. The technically easy course starts at Lake Neusiedler, providing beautiful scenery for a fight against the clock. Stefan was strong and can really be proud of his performance. The 12th spot in this high-class field is enormous. Tomorrow we would like to bring the 7th GC place home with Stefan as well as making a good stage result with our other riders."

Tomorrow's 8th stage from Podersdorf to Vienna, over 122.8 km, will be the final one in the 62nd edition of the Tour of Austria. The course, which includes 10 loops around the Burgtheater in Vienna at the end, is quite flat.

Congrats to Stefan and thanks to Jens Zemke and the rest of the team for a great afternoon in Podersdorf! It was really nice to get a view behind the scenes of CTT.
