Denifl best Austrian rider, another top 10 finish

July 08, 2010 - Filed under: TestTeam
The Tour of Austria's fifth stage from Bleiburg to Deutschlandsberg though not the hardest one was still very challenging. The 150.3 km course contained two mountains, one of them a category 2, plus the heat and the last steep short climb to the finish certainly made this stage an interesting one. Stefan Denifl (AUT) was again the best-placed rider today for Cervélo TestTeam finishing again in ninth place just behind the GC favorites. The Belgium Nick Nuyens took the stage win out of a break, ahead of Giovanni Visconti (ITA) and Egor Silin (RUS). The overall ranking is still led by Riccardo Ricco (ITA) while Stefan Denifl is back in the 9th position in the GC and will also wear again tomorrow the jersey for the best Austrian rider.

"Today the peloton were racing at a very high speed. On the top of the first mountain, at about 50 km, a break away was built but unfortunately without any Cervélo TestTeam riders in it," explained Jens Zemke, Sports Director, Cervélo TestTeam after the race. "The lead group was 13 riders strong, until the end of the stage. Then they lost some riders but five survived over the second mountain and also in the final short and steep ramp to the finish, despite hard work from our team at the front of the peloton in the last ten kilometers. Stefan again showed a great performance on the final climb and took the ninth spot behind the escape group and the big names like Ricco and Emanuele Sella (ITA), confirming with that finish, his top ten GC position. Unfortunately we did lose a rider today. Dominique Rollin (CAN) had to give up the race on the second mountain. It is a challenging tour especially also in this heat," informed Jens Zemke.

The sixth stage of the Tour of Austria takes place tomorrow from Deutschlandsberg to Laxenburg over 231.8 km. Cervélo TestTeam riders are still very motivated to tackle the challenge of the Tour's longest stage.

1 Nick Nuyens - BEL - Rabobank

Two things...

I really appreciate your prompt reporting. I know the TDF is the big one, but I am more interested in the Tour of Austria. I have only been getting the automatic updates for the TDF.

Also, is it possible for you to list all the Cervelo riders and how they did - as well as the fastest rider. It would be nice to see how they are all doing - like the info on the TDF.

Thank you!!!
