Appollonio sprints to second place

September 26, 2010 - Filed under: TestTeam
Davide Appollonio (ITA) took a close second place today at the Tour of Vendée. Spain's Koldo Fernandez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) won the race with Jonathan Hivert (FRA-Saur-Sojasun) in third.

"It was a very hard race, always up and down, like the roads in Flanders. After 10 km there was an eleven man breakaway of mostly French riders. We had Alexander Wetterhall (SWE) in there, and he did a really good job," explained Philippe Mauduit, Sports Director. "After the feeding zone there was a pretty hard climb, catching the break on the top of the climb. Than there was a group of 4 riders in front with Radio Shack controlling the race, as we lay in wait for the sprint. We were concentrating on the final with Heinrich and Appollonio, and that was what we did. Everybody did their job perfectly to bring Davide and Heinrich into the perfect position. But they started a bit to early, Heinrich opened the sprint to early, and then Davide came a little to early out of Heinrich's wheel. If they had waited just a bit longer we could have taken first and second but unfortunately we had to settle for second today. But, we had really good teamwork, the season is not over and we showed that we still have pretty good form. We are still able to win a few of races this year and all the upcoming races are a perfect fit these riders."
