Appollonio second in photo finish at GP De Fourmies

Davide Appollonio (ITA) came second today in a photo finish at the GP De Fourmies, narrowly missing the victory to Romain Feillu (FRA). Kenny Dehaes (BEL) placed third in the 205 kilometer one day race in northern France.

"Today's race consisted of a big 41 kilometer loop that the riders had to complete five times," said Marcello Albasini, sports director. "The race started in the rain, but the second part was quite dry. First there was a break of 17 riders with Cervélo‘s Alexander Wetterhall (SWE), but this group didn't got enough space. Then there was a five man breakaway with none of our riders nor any of the big riders.

AG2R started chasing them and just when they were arriving at final loop there was another new break with some good riders, but we missed that. So now other teams also started to chase and we helped as we brought Davide into a good position for the sprint. Everything came together and it ended in a bunch sprint. Davide was really close and after the seeing the photo finish we saw that he just missed the victory by 2 centimeters."
