Haussler 2nd at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

Sky's Juan Antonio Flecha soloed to the finish line to become the first Spanish winner of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad men's elite. Cervélo TestTeam's Heinrich Haussler placed second, Tyler Farrar (USA-Garmin-Transitions) finished in third in the 204.3 kilometre race.

A clever attack on the cobbles with about 20 kilometres remaining set up Flecha's win as he moved away from pre-race favourite and two-time Omloop winner Philippe Gilbert (Omega Pharma-Lotto). Haussler would prove to be the next member of the peloton to see Flecha as he followed the Sky rider in for second place.

"I tried to attack a few times today but it was never the right group," said Heinrich Haussler. "No one seemed to want to work. So in the final I tried it again and I was just able to stay ahead of the group behind me. I am really happy about the second place, to be honest I was not sure about today. Actually this race was a bit of a test because of my knee, but I realized today that my form is still there I felt comfortable mixing it up at the front of the bunch."

"Today was a really good day for us," said Jean-Paul van Poppel. "We struggled a bit with some issues, Heinrich with his knee and Thor with his form, as he had been out because of sickness. But overall the team worked great together and we again showed that we are a really strong team for these kinds of races."
