Volta ao Algarve ends with Individual Time Trial

February 21, 2010 - Filed under: TestTeam
An individual time trial (17.2 km) was the final stage today at the Volta ao Algarve. Luis Leon Sanchez (Spa-Caisse d'Epargne) won it but Alberto Contador (Spa-Astana) who finished second in today's stage won the overall GC, benefiting from the seconds he gained in his stage win Friday. Sebastian Rosseler (Bel-Team RadioShack) finished third.

"Ignatas (Konovalovas) and Brett (Lancaster) both delivered good time trials although they didn't take any risks today because of the bad weather, very wet and slippery," said Marcello Albasini, Sports Director. "Brett did have some bad luck today when the police man in front of him sent him in the wrong direction. This race has grown over the past years it was much bigger and quite different than last year's, with bigger teams and a harder course. Overall this has been good tour, we are looking forward to the big races ahead and morale is very good."

Stage 5 (ITT): Laguna - Portimão 17.2km

1 Luis Leon Sanchez (Spa) Caisse d'Epargne 0:21:32
2 Alberto Contador (Spa) Astana 0:00:13
3 Sebastien Rosseler (Bel) Team RadioShack 0:00:16
