Sebastien Rosseler (Bel- Team RadioShack) turned a breakaway into a solo victory in the fourth stage of the Volta ao Algarve's, arriving in Tavira 20 seconds ahead of four former breakaway companions, Mickael Delage (Fra- Omega Pharma - Lotto) who placed second and Imanol Erviti (Spa - Caisse d'Epargne) in third.
"There was a really fast start to the race today with Astana setting a high pace. In the first kilometre the peloton was one line and then suddenly there were a number of different breakaways though none ever got more than minute away," said Marcello Albasini, Sports Director. "At around the 80 kilometre mark there was a new breakaway with 5 riders and with 25 kilometres to go Rosseler, who was part of the breakaway, made an attack and soled to the win. The other four riders in that group finished 20 seconds after Rosseler and the main bunch including TestTeam's Ted King and Volodimr Gustov finished 3 minutes later. It was up and down the entire day. Though it has been hard here the last 3 days we are still in preparation for the upcoming races, so it has been good for us. We have had some good days in this race, in the breakaways with Ted (King) and Jeremy (Hunt) and overall the team has been pretty visible, the only thing we missed was a good result."
Thor Hushovd and Heinrich Haussler, who had a small crash yesterday, both left the Tour of Algarve today to prepare for the classics that start next weekend with the Omloop het Nieuwsblad.
