Cervélo looks to new opportunities

Cervélo confirmed today that it would not continue as a cycling team title sponsor after the end of the 2010 season.
Certain subtle changes in the rules that govern pro cycling, have established a trend towards bigger budgets to ensure participation in all the big races, and this is not something with which we are comfortable. We were okay with the significant commitment we originally made to the team, but to increase it is not prudent.
To create the best opportunities for riders, staff, sponsors and other stakeholders, a bigger team environment is needed. At the same time, the very positive response to a focus on "more than just racing" has been great.
We look forward to continued involvement in pro cycling at the highest level with an emphasis on product R&D, as we have since 2003. To that end, we will announce the details soon.

i would never ride a trek after being on a Cervelo. please keep Beyond the Peloton alive. sad to see that pro cycling is pushing out the smaller teams. i dont see how that benifits the sport and upincommers from braking out. LONG LIVE CERVELO.

Well it was an excellent run and innovative in it's overall marketing and sales approach. One hopes the engineering ethos remains in place as well.
If Cervelo continues to produce superior handling bikes - no big deal in the end.
Hopefully these characteristics will carry over into the new Garmin Cervelo team.

as a major fan of the brand and CTT concept (i own a S3, P3 and a R3sl), i find this news most disappointing. The direct link between racing, the bike manufacturer and the bikes i ride, was unique, inspiring and went a long way to build the brand- sort of a F1/Ferrari feel to it . Perhaps a title sponsor can step in where the link to the manufacturer can hopefully continue. CTT and beyond the peleton will be sorely missed :(

Both Cervelo Test Team and Cervelo company are super inspirational to my biking lifestyle.

Sad news indeed! Cervelo brand and CTT have been my big inspirations in road racing for the past two years! Always looked forward to performances, news, & blogs of both men & women teams!
What now with sponsors?! Can't imagine Cervelo without Castelli, or vice versa, not to mention other sponsors! The whole lot seemed to be like a perfect match!
I am sure my team colleagues will be giving me some stick on the bike this weekend! No worries, gonna take out my woes on the bike and let the guys chase my ass like mad! Thanks from the bottom of my heart...and the heart of my bottom for all you guys have given mad-hatters like me the past few years! You guys are legends...and that will endure!!!

I hope the riders find new teams. I think Cerveleo makes a great bike, and they had strong riders. Best wishes to all the riders.
And let's hope that Cerveleo continues to produce solid and innovative bikes rather than just more "products."

Best wishes for the backrooom guys as well, hope you find something else.
Great team, in every respect. My son got to see you all close up at the Rodez Depart - he came back saying he was going to race for Cervelo... well who knows...
Good luck.

Ah well, c'est la vie ! Too bad CTT is so shortlived. Am always proud to see CTT in its team jersey outfit. Not afraid to say it is the smartest looking team around.
With my R3 and both 09 and 10 jersey, I know they are the right investment for a long while. Glad that I made the investment.
Castelli and Cervelo ( not forgetting Catlike too) were such great partners in outfit design. Simply outstanding. Agree guys ?
Hopefully the clothing line will continue. Have you thought about sponsoring the Schleck brothers in Luxemburg ?
Design of Cervelos' new bike is so slow in coming other than new color scheme and the R5 a little lighter. Yawn...
Let's have something radically new.
Good luck to Henrich and Thor !

Well, for now, that just sucks! I've had my Soloist for 4 years and watched every move of this company / team since it's inception; it was a fantastic program and drew me waaay further into cycling than I thought I would ever be. I learned that the sport is much more than just Lance. It was definitely more of a personal relationship than just owning a brand of bike. I guess we'll see what happens... man, Haussler was just about to bust out too... :(
Best of luck, but I sincerely doubt there will ever be a group that had such an impact and was based on principles and the back-story, not just winning...

Even as a BMC rider this is sad to see.
BTP was genius and put a definitive public face on the brand, instead of a generic 'engineered' broadcast ad as its personality.
Sad day. Hopefully this doesn't lead to bigger problems with the brand.

WOW, that is just sux
So its just business isnt it? nothing personal just business?
Purchasing Cervelo was my way of becoming a part of something that goes beyond the peloton. Yes, yes that is right, CTT made me think they are more than just billboards on zipps. But now I have started to realise its just another marketing trick played on my mind.
I bet Cervelo management contemplated that scenario from the day they lost to Specialized. Presense in pro peloton is essential for success of any bike brand. CTT could well be just a stage untill they strike an agreement with real pro team for equipment supply. Next season will show.
Well played Cervelo Ltd. but what about riders, fans, dedication to continuous RD for the benefit of cycling community. What about priceless direct feedback from CTT riders that assists you with RD and helps you to make superior bicycles.
Dont get me wrong I am fully deticated to bottom line myself but if you want to sell shit to me you may have to be more dedicated to cycling and less to bottom line. Otherwise you just another reseller of modified Chinese products under big name.
Thanks for 2 years of joy and massive disapointment at the end.

Very sad news. I always enjoy watching the CTT ride. How about joining with the new Schleck luxembourg team? I don't think they have a bike sponsor yet.

Sad news. I'm realy "touché" for the hole Team an Staff But I think it's even harder for the Girls Team. For Women it's one of the only real professional teams and hard to find a new one at that level. Wish you all good luck for 2012. So as it seems I have to support Garmin on Cervelo bikes next year.

It is all about the bikes.. they're pure class and they are not affected by this change.. Its sad for some of the team members that they need a new team however many of them got fantastic oppotunities with CTT and this shouldn't be forgotten.

If the money is re-directed to R&D as opposed to the pro team then its not all that bad. This is how Cervelo originally made their mark, & their impact has been monuentous; both in the cycling & triathlon world.
The ability to stay ahead of the competition is what makes Cervelo unique. I would prefer a state-of-the-art, cutting edge, lightweight frame that is affordable, than seeing someone else riding it on TV.
Not to see hot chicks in Cervelo gear...to say the least...is a sad day!!

Definitely a loss in the peloton!! But let's be honest: The bikes will go on to be the best you can ever ride over this world's roads. Flat and fast or steep and painful - Cervelo owns them all!
Keep it up Gerard & Phil, you rule the scene!

To me, it is the reviews that count. OK, its fascinating to think about the heroes of the brand I ride, but it is more important to know that I got the most value for my money to help me achieve my goals

Sad news but understandable in this environment. I was just in the Cote d'azur France and rode my S3 over the col de Madone. The bike as always was outstanding. Long live Cervelo and their outstanding engineers. A wonderful bicycle.
