Bjorn Andersson takes second at Tristar111 Estonia triathlon

This past weekend I took competed in and ended up in second place at the Tristar111 Estonia race. Tristar is a relatively new race organization putting on a series of races around Europe. For the Estonia competition the field consisted of quite a few triathlon legends such as Chris McCormack, Lothar Leder and Thomas Hellriegel as well as the future of the sport represented here by Philip Graves.
The forecast for the race predicted record breaking temperatures up to 36-37 degrees celsius which was bad news for someone like me who is not at all suited to hot weather racing. The race started at 11 am so by the time we went out on the bike I was already melting and had to constantly lower my ambitions and intensity in order to not overheat.
With about 10 miles to go on the bike I upped the pace a little bit and got away from Graves, whom I had been riding with until that point. That gave me a lead of around 2.5 minutes before the run. Unfortunately I couldn't get rid of the excess heat I was producing at that stage and things started to get ugly. I visited a water sprinkler in a garden about 2 miles into the run, where I spent a few minutes cooling off. That got me running again and helped me secure that second place finish in the end.
All in all racing in Estonia under the Tristar umbrella was a good experience and hopefully any other race conditions this year will now feel cool and refreshing in comparison.
