Team Garmin-Transitions and Cervélo SA will join forces for the 2011 season to create a new team that will be known as Garmin-Cervélo.
"Slipstream Sports and Cervélo share the key philosophies of developing the next generation of cycling champions and an unwavering commitment to ethical sport," said Jonathan Vaughters, CEO of Slipstream Sports and Director Sportif of Team Garmin-Transitions. "We are happy to work with another company that, like Garmin, so closely shares our goals. We will be adding great talent to an already outstanding roster and we believe the new team will build on past successes and will produce incredibly exciting racing in 2011. The possibilities are endless - on the road and off - and we look forward to what we can achieve."
"As we have often mentioned, our primary goal has always been to have some control over the direction that cycling will take," said Phil White, Cervélo co-founder. "With Slipstream Sports, we share common goals and values. Together we will be in a stronger position to keep moving the sport forward."
Slipstream Sports pioneered the most stringent anti-doping program in all of professional sports and that will continue with Team Garmin-Cervelo. In addition to the new Team Garmin-Cervelo and the Holowesko Partners U23 Development team, Slipstream Sports will, for the first time, also run a professional women's cycling team.
"The fit is a natural one," added Vaughters. "We've wanted to become stronger in the Classics and we're confident that we'll come into 2011 with one of the strongest Classics line-ups in the peloton. Beyond that, we are extremely excited to create a very good women's program."
"In our eight years in pro cycling, we have seen the many possibilities cycling offers," concludes White. "The very positive response to a focus on more than just racing has been great. The emphasis we have had on product R&D since 2003 will be integrated into the new team's routine as well.
Transitions Optical is expecting to continue its sponsorship, pending final agreement, evolving into the Official Lens Supplier.
The creation of the new team is still under development. More information, including official team rosters, will become available in the October timeframe.

On the one hand, I was saddened to learn of the end of Cervelo Test Team. As a Cervelo owner/rider, I identified with them and reveled in their success. They validated my opinion of Cervelo as a real player among top quality bike makers.
On the other hand, I am delighted to be able to outfit myself on steeply discounted Cervelo Test Team clothing, as retailers get desperate to liquidate before the team is forgotten. That's TOP SHELF Castelli stuff, folks! Got 2 pairs of Bibs for $250. They are CTT labeled, but they are Castelli Free, top of the line, retailing at over $200 EACH! And I scored similar deals on jerseys, vest, jackets and gloves while I was at it, and it all matches my 2008 RS colors perfectly! At last I have my revenge on Cervelo for stiffing me on my schwag request...not even a bumper sticker or water bottle.

I'm delighted with the Garmin-Cervelo merger and look for great things to happen in 2011. I must admit I *HATE* the new kits though. You can't even see the argyle unless you are close enough to grab the cyclist's arm? With the old Garmin argyle a fan really *knew* when a Garmin rider went whizzing past. Now? Not so much. The G-C guys are going to look too much like some of the other teams, esp. Sky. It's boring, blah, and not very marketable to consumers IMHO. Bad choice!

Am busy organising the Team Camp in Cayman for the first week in December.
Really looking forward to welcoming the whole combined men's team down to our islands, and if anyone wishes to come down, Thursday December 2nd is "Meet the Pros" day, with a group ride and a charity gala event.

HTC won't get their asses handed over to them. They rule bitches. Everyone knows that cavendish is the fastest. Garmin Cervelo will still be a good team though.

I'm delighted that Cervelo is staying in professional competition and teaming up with Garmin with Vaughters alongside canonly strengthen their R&D and consatnt improvement through the racing. I've alwas been a fan of the racing jerseys so my concern is Cervelos in Plaid. Doesn't bear thinking about.

Great move for my favourite rider the mighty Thor. I really hope Philip Duignan make the team. A really unlucky ride with injury ect but a super rider and just the sort of climber this team needs when he is fit. Good luck in the Vuelta Philip, hang in there boy.

Good merger, I love hushovd and haussler, my 2 favorite riders in the pro peloton. But so is tyler farrar. I wonder if they are "merging" really or just trying to cut costs and teamates. Who from the 2 teams will be on this years TDF team? All I really want is team HTC to get their asses handed over to them, both garmin and cervelo hate them so this just fuels the fire for hatred to cavendish. I'm just glad hushovd and haussler get to be on the same team and together they are the coolest guys, just kick ass and make sure you are ready for a battle

Great to see Garmin and Cervelo merging, but I already beat you to it. Been riding a Carbon Soloist with a Garmin Edge for the past few years! Will miss the black Cervelo kit.

Great news. Good move for Cervelo. It is clear that a small company like Cervelo cannot bear the enormous cost of sponsoring a team for long. I was expecting something like this to come along. Garmin is indeed the best fit in culture and technology for Cervelo.
I disagree with the stern rebuke from an earlier poster about credibility. Look, in this day, no one has immunity from the realities of economic pressures. It would be great if Cervelo could offer everyone employment and give away free bikes, but that isn't the way life works. So get over it. The true talent rises to the top. The mediocre players will struggle. That is the way it always works.
Can't wait to see the new kit for 2011.
Cheers,
Dan

I can not find a better merger between Pro Tour teams than this one.
Garmin and Cervélo share a lot in their vision of a new cycling era. Since the creation of both teams, they have made it clear that they are in cycling to win races, but also that they are not willing to win at all costs. I like that attitide.
I personally -and I guess many more for sure- do not care if they win or not the GC in any GT in the short term, as long as they keep winning some races under an ethical commitment against doping.
Congratulations to all involved in this merger. It is going to be very exciting to see them racing in the new colors.

CTT was my favorite with Hushovd and Haussler my favorite riders. They're now joining my second favorite team, Garmin!! I know Thor made the move, but PLEASE keep Haussler, too!! Now the question will be what the kits look like?? Black and white argyle?? This is the best combo team move I could have wished for!! Time to destroy HTC!!

It was heart-wrenching to hear CTT was disbanding. But I can't even fathom a better outcome considering the circumstances than Cervelo combining forces with Garmin. Does this mean that Farrar, Hushovd and Haussler (because they were thinking about Garmin anyways) will all be riding together???

It's really important that Cervelo puts out more details about why it couldn't continue as an independent team otherwise it might appear that the last two years were just a marketing exercise to raise the profile of the brand. I'm sure that's not the case but a lot of us Cervelo bike owners bought into the brand because it was the perfect set-up: the best bikes, the coolest kit, a fantastic race team and the feeling of being part of a special community high on ethics.
But ethics is not just about anti-doping. It's also about people - it's vital that Cervelo puts it's people first - especially the CTT staff and riders. Thor, Heinrich and Theo will be showered with contact offers but what about the real dedicated team players? The staff and domestiques - Hammond. Hunt, Lloyd, King and the rest of the lads. Cervelo must make sure these boys are properly looked after.
The partnership with Garmin is very exciting and logical in many ways but Cervelo is in danger of loosing its credibilty and even some of its sales if it gets the next few months wrong.

Great move Cervelo!! My heart stopped for about 20 seconds, in-between the two announcements!! Stopping after reading about the disbanding of the CTT for 2010, and then it restarted after reading the the formation of the Garmin-Cervelo Team in 2011. Very very excited about the new team, products (esp R5ca), and forthcoming roster!! Thank you very much to all of the CTT members!! Hoping Poppel will be with the new team!! Cheers!

This is a great news! I hope as many current CTT riders as possible will find new home in Team Garmin-Cervelo.
And what about the women's team? They have been almost unbeatable this year. It'd be such a shame if they couldn't continue their winning ways.
