Kirsten Wild wins fourth stage at Holland Ladies Tour

Kirsten Wild (NED) took the victory today in the fourth stage of the Holland Ladies Tour. The 97 kilometer stage in Diepenheim ended in a bunch sprint with Marianne Vos (NED- Nederland Bloeit) finishing second and Giorgia Bronzini (ITA Mixteam Merida/Gauss) placing third. The win put Wild 18 seconds down from GC leader Martine Bras (NED - Mixteam Merida/Gauss).
“The breakaway was a good situation for us today as it included Sarah Düster (GER), one of the highest ranked GC riders in the group and then everything came together and we were prepared for the sprint,” said Kirsten Wild, following today’s victory. “Sarah and Charlotte Becker (GER) did a perfect lead out. I came pretty early to the front with 275 meters to go but I was able to hold it. I am really happy to win a stage here in my home race against the best sprinters in the world. Everything had to go perfect and today was that day.”
“Today we had good weather and not too much wind for the five laps that made up the fourth stage. The message was clear, we tried to be in the breakaways and our riders where pretty active throughout the stage,” said Jean Paul van Poppel, Sports Director. “We had Sarah Düster (GER) and Emilie Aubry (SUI) in the breakaway of the day, and though they both gave full gas in the group they never got more than 40 seconds on the main group. So at the final it came to a bunch sprint, Kirsten won it – it was pretty clear, a very nice win. She came back with all the bonuses, and now is 18 seconds from Martine Bras. We will continue to play the Kirsten card and focus on making up that time in tomorrow’s time trial. Tomorrow afternoon we hope to take the jersey, but it will be not so easy.”
Tomorrow there are two stages in Rijssen. The race in the morning is 80.4 kilometers and the individual time trial in the afternoon is 15.6 kilometers.
