Charlotte Becker on podium in stage 2 finish
July 21, 2010 - Filed under: Testteam
German National Champion Charlotte Becker of Cervélo TestTeam finished third today in the second stage of the International Thüringen Rundfahrt. Becker finished 1:03 behind the winner Edita Pucinskaite (LTU) in the 132 km stage around Gera. Second place was won by Russia’s Olga Zabelinskaja, who and is now the overall GC leader with an advantage of 1:18 on her compatriot Elena Kuchinskaya. Becker currently sits fifth in the GC, 2:32 behind. Teammate Sarah Düster (GER) remains ninth in the GC. “Today our plan was to work for Sarah but unfortunately is was not her best day, “ said Egon van Kessel, Sports Director. “So, we changed together our tactic and supported Charlotte as she was also not very far behind in the GC. Charlotte was able to get into the stage’s main break away today. Seven riders escaped from the bunch and did a good job until after the last intermediate sprint. Then Edita Pucinskaite attacked and Olga Zabelinskaja followed her. Charlotte Becker tried to close the gap and came closer but not close enough for the final sprint. Pucinskaite won ahead of Zabelinskaja and Charlotte took third spot. The GC is still open and with Charlotte we know have a well-placed rider in thick of the competition.“ The third stageof the International Thüringen Rundfahrt, a 138.7 km ride around the city of Greiz takes place tomorrow. The 1800 meters altitude will also be a factor.
