"We would like to thank Carlos for his contribution to the Cervélo TestTeam in the past two years, and for a great collaboration during his eight years of riding a Cervélo. We have fond memories of this period, with of course his 2008 Tour de France victory as the absolute highlight," said Cervélo co-founder Gerard Vroomen. "We wish him the best for the future and are convinced he will ride a great Vuelta. Our team will support him in the best possible way."

The Cervélo Test Team loses a great rider. Not illogical, if you won the Tour de France in 2008.
I remember me the victory of Carlos Sastre in the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia. It was heroic : the weather conditions were unbearable and the 237km makes the race very hard. But who won the race? Yes, Carlos Sastre.
According to me, the last year of Carlos by Cervélo was a lost year. Only in the Tour de France I've seen him. One attack here, one attack there... But a victory was staying out. Very sad, if you know that Sastre has the capacities to win a stage. Only in the Clasica San Sebastian, he surprises me. Never I've expected a 3rd place of him.
But whatever... Sastre hasn't need a victory in the Tour de France to prove him. He is and will always be a great rider.
Dear Carlos, I wish you a lot of success by your new team. And who knows, some day, perhaps you win a great Tour.

"He has not really done crap the last two years."

Where did this come from? He is a great rider. Sure. But a small team like this needs fireworks to keep the wheels of interest moving. I love his attitude toward the bike and his calm demeanor, but hopefully the eyes are looking for the next Spanish mountain phenom or Haussler's twin

Disappointing, but not surprising. Young men's dreams are built around their desire to measure themselves against their colleages...to deserve their success. Emphasizing the equipment that's used in competition as the "primary" factor in their success reduces their self-worth...parading them as circus animals makes them a part of someone elses success...yes, providing riders with the best equipement is excellent inspiration, but detaching them from their dreams is a little selfish. Cervelo (Vroomen-White) should learn something very valuable from this; respect for the other man's aspirations increases our own self-worth.

Carlos. The first time we saw you was in the ONCE cycling team, we thought you had a nice riding style. Me and my brother thought we would follow him through his career in cycling. I met your dad and brother in Italy / Rome / Giro. I talked to your dad and told him that we have followed your career since you rode for ONCE. He dropped his chin and he wondered if it was true, and I said it was. He thanked me several times. For that we follow your cycling career, Carlos. Now we have to write a new chapter in your career, Carlos. We hope it will be equally success-filled and exciting as for now.
My own wisdom words, "It is not always the winner who has the most fun on a bike"
My best regards to you Carlos and Cervélo test team in the future.

Shocked to hear this - maybe he wants to take on a mentoring role with the new younger team rather than have the pressure of leading the team - although he'll miss riding the best bikes in the world.

I am really shocked, he was one of the first riders to come to Cervelo and help organize the team from scratch. Also Carlos has been riding a Cervelo for over 7 years and I thought he also invested in Cervelo bikes. On the flip side I don't believe he is a top notch GC contender any more due to all of the young guns coming up. He will be missed a class act all the way. TD
