Shaped for Bottles

Drinking is something that every rider needs to do. Taking this into account during design results in a faster overall package.

System Engineering approach

Improving aerodynamics for the rider requires a system engineering approach, taking into account the entire bike system, including bike, rider, and accessories. Since nearly every rider carries a bottle or two, we take the aerodynamic effect of the bottle into account when engineering the shape of the frame.

Cervélo models that are Shaped for Bottles (see below) have an airfoil down tube that is flattened on the trailing edge in front of the bottle. While it is still aerodynamically faster to ride with no bottle (and no cage), the overall penalty for carrying one is reduced by partly integrating the bottle into the down tube airfoil.
