Ben Shaw

Ben's introduction to Cervelo bicycles occurred in his final year of High School when doing an assignment in advanced mathematics class, focussing on the geometry of the Cervelo S3.  After finishing school with an OP1 - highest possible grade in the Queensland (Australia) educational system - he decided to forego a medical degree and train full-time for triathlon.

In his first year of competition he won the World Junior Elite Aquathlon Title . In 2011 at the
World Under 23 Championships (at 19 years of age) in Beijing, riding the same Cervelo S3 bike that appeared in his mathematics assignment , he broke away on the bike and led for nearly 5km of the run before being run down and falling back to 24th place. In 2012 as a 20 year old placed 25th in the Elite Grand Final at the World Triathlon Championships in Auckland - riding in a bike break-away in which he was the only athlete that had not competed in an Olympics.

The 2013 season has commenced with a third place finish in the New Zealand Sprint Championships. This was followed by a 14th place in the Mooloolaba World Cup after breaking away in the swim, leading the field by over thirty seconds before being caught halfway through the bike leg. The next three races were World Championship Series events in Auckland (19th), San Diego (33rd) and Yokohama (13th). Currently ranked 19th in the World Championship Series. Now riding the Cervelo S5 Ben has been in the lead group of every event in which he has competed this year. As a 21 year old, and one of the youngest competitors in the World Championship Series, he continues to develop into one of the top drafting triathletes in the world.
