| Introduction |
2005: Jens Voigt in his winning ways on the S1 (formerly known as the Soloist Team) [Cervélo was the bike supplier of Team CSC from 2003 through 2008. Since 2009 Cervélo runs the Cervelo TestTeam]

“It explodes off your pedal strokes with that instantaneous acceleration, but it also keeps on rocketing ahead after your booster phase, as if a free tailwind was thrown in with your purchase.” - Bicycling Magazine
The most underrated bike in the world according to magazines and pro riders, the S1 is quite simply the best value in road bikes. A 100% pro bike, with victories in Paris-Nice, Critérium International, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour de l’Avénir and many other races.
Nowadays people are sometimes so blinded by “carbon” that they prefer a mediocre carbon frame over the best aluminum frame that is lighter, stronger, stiffer, more responsive and even more comfortable. Therefore, try before you buy, as we are confident you will join the ranks of S1 owners. For those who have recognized that the S1 is one of the best bikes in the world in any material, we now also offer this frame with a high-end SRAM New Force groupset.

| Feature-Benefit-Experience |
| |
|
The bike industry loves to talk about features (tube shapes, materials, etc). But a feature is useless without a benefit! Ask yourself, would you prefer a poorly engineered frame made of “Ultra High Modulus carbon” (a feature)? Or an intelligently engineered frame that uses the material to create something lighter, stiffer and stronger (real benefits)?
Even more than benefits, you want experiences. The aforementioned lightness & stiffness may be benefits, but what you really want is the experience of higher performance, through quicker acceleration and better climbing.
This is why we list not only features, but also the accompanying benefits and experiences. To recap:
Product Feature: “Which innovative shape, material or design solution was used on this frame?”
Technical Benefit: “What is the advantage of this shape, material or solution?”
Rider Experience: “How does this feature & benefit change my riding experience?” This usually involves experiencing higher performance or more comfort. Some features also offer an esthetic experience, and although we would never sacrifice performance or comfort for beauty, sometimes you can have it all.

| TrueAero® tubeset |
Lower aerodynamic resistance: TrueAero tube shapes are designed for the lowest drag at bicycle speeds. |
Higher performance: Lower resistance means you need to generate fewer Watts for the same speed. |
| Smartwall® cross section |
Increased stiffness without added weight: Smartwall moves material from the top and bottom to the sides of the aero tubes to make them laterally stiffer. |
Higher performance: A laterally stiffer frame means more efficient power transfer from pedal to rear wheel, and more predictable handling in corners. |
| Cervélo welding method |
Cervelo engineers developed this technique specifically for the P1 and S1 frames. Our double-pass smooth welding without filing or sanding creates the strongest possible joints. |
Higher performance through extreme durability. Combining the material and the welding technique, the S1 is perfect for serious racers and those who don’t want any hassle with their frame – ever. |
| 2-postion for road and TT/Tri geometry (optional) |
Two positions gives you a traditional road position or a steeper tt/tri style position in one frame. |
Higher performance and comfort in both road and tt/tri applications. |

Airplanes require different airfoils than bicycles. Sounds logical, but many companies are so proud to say their airfoils come from the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA). So were we, 13 years ago.
But now, we design our own specific airfoils, and it has led to significant improvements. It’s one of the reasons why we spend weeks and weeks in the windtunnel each year, not hours (if any) as is customary in the industry.
When you have the most and the best engineers working on aerodynamic improvements and you give them more time to play in the windtunnel sand box than anybody else, you end up with faster bikes. Simple.

| Smartwall 2™ |
  Smartwall cross section
|
| |
|
| Smartwall™ puts the material where it matters, far away from the center plane. This increases bottom bracket stiffness (more efficient power transfer) and torsional stiffness (better handling) while at the same time reducing in-plane harshness. It’s why S1 test rides convince so many people to get this Aluminum bike instead of a carbon bike.

| Geometry |
| |
|
No custom Cervélo is needed even for the most demanding pros, that’s our conclusion after supporting hundreds of the world’s best athletes. The reason we don’t need customs where other bike companies do lies in our unique reach-based geometry. For an exhaustive explanation on why 6 Cervélo sizes fit more people than 12 “normal” sizes, check out our geometry tech presentation.
