| Introduction |
Fabian Cancellara wins Gold on his P3 at the 2008 Olympics [Cervélo was a proud partner of Team CSC from 2003 through 2008. For 2009 Cervélo has founded the TestTeam]

“Most successful time trial bike on the ProTour circuit”
“Most successful triathlon bike on the Ironman circuit”
If it was going to be surpassed, it was going to be by another Cervélo, and the P4 has finally managed to do so.
But with the P3 scoring both Gold medals and a total of four out of a possible six medals in the time trial in Beijing (men & women), it is clear that the P3 is here to stay. There is a bright future for the second-best TT bike in the world.

| Upgrades from P2 |
| |
|
More aero seattube - The curved seattube covers more of the rearwheel than any other cutout, resulting in even better aerodynamics.
More aero seatstay/seattube transition - The seatstays blend into the main triangle without any aerodynamic disruption in the form of a monostay, thereby further improving the aerodynamics.
Lighter - The P3 is 150g lighter than the P2.

| Highlights |
| |
|
The new standard – Probably the most copied concept in the history of TT/Tri bikes, but never matched in performance. The P3 has the most wins in pro cycling, and is also most successful frame in Ironman racing (both in wins and bike counts).
Aero headtube - no bulky nose cone, but an extremely thin, aerodynamically optimized shape.
CCS - Constant Cross-section Seattube - The airflow over the seattube is predominantly horizontal. The new seattube shape has a cross section shape that is separately optimized everywhere between bottom bracket and the seatstay joint.
IAA seatpost – Cervélo’s Integrated Accessory Attachment allows you to securely attach a behind-the-seat carriage system – no need to clamp anything to the saddle or around the seatpost. Several manufacturers, such as Xlab-usa (Carbon Sonic and Sonic Wing are not sold through Cervélo and Cervélo has no connection with Xlab-usa), make components to fit the IAA system.
Integrated Seattube collar – Invisible to the airflow, while still allowing the seatmast to be removed, this design is both the most aero and allows for easy traveling and adjustment.
ICS Internal CableStops - Cervélo’s standard setting cable routing system. Easy to install, easy to service, easy to keep clean and improved aerodynamics.
UCI legal - As with all our frames, the P3 is UCI legal.
Frameset - The P3 is also available as a frameset.

| Airplanes require different airfoils than bicycles. Sounds logical, but many companies are so proud to say their airfoils come from the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA). So did we, 13 years ago. But now, we design our own specific airfoils, and it has led to significant improvements. It’s one of the reasons why we spend weeks and weeks in the windtunnel each year, not hours (if any) as is customary in the industry. When you have the most and the best engineers working on aerodynamic improvements and you give them more time to play in the windtunnel sand box than anybody else, you end up with faster bikes. Simple.

| Smartwall for Carbon |
| |
|
Patent-pending technology from our carbon materials and manufacturing group, Smartwall elaborates on the Squoval tubeshape. With the sides far away from the center plane more important, we concentrate more material there to increase the benefit.
Strips of High and Ultra-high modulus carbon stiffen the sides of the main tubes to resist lateral bending. These strips are feathered in to properly transfer the loads from the joints into these tubes.
Finally, we add Kevlar to the headtube/downtube area for industry-leading impact strength.

| Geometry |
| |
|
Cervélos fit better. In the end that is the main reason why they have become the most popular time trial & triathlon bike in history. Of course we have unparalleled aerodynamic know-how, and the frames offer great power transfer and handling. But the most important reason why people are comfortable and fast on Cervélos is that they fit properly.
Cervélo geometry offers two large benefits:
|
1) |
It puts the handlebars and saddle in the right position relative to the bottom bracket very easily in its standard set-up, making it easy to find a fast and comfortable position. |
|
2) |
It offers a very wide range of positioning option thanks to the seatpost design and the different headtube lengths between the P1/P2 and the P3/P4. This allows our customers with a not-so-standard fit to take advantage of Cervélo’s superb aerodynamic and handling performance without any need to go custom. |

| Note 1: | The above headtube lengths are for integrated headsets. To compare to non-integrated headtubes, deduct 20mm from the above lengths to adjust for the stack height needed for non-integrated headsets. |
| Note 2: | All our TT/tri bikes have a dropped toptube and shortened headtube to enable the rider to position the aerobars low enough for a proper aero position. This means that the frame size is no longer equivalent to the seattube length, so don't determine the size that way. Simply go by the size sticker, or measure the headtube and look it up in the above chart. |

| UCI Approval |
| |
|
During the development of the P2 and P3 models, Cervélo has ensured that these models comply with the new UCI regulations that came into effect on January 1, 2000. The main points of the new rules are:
- Frames have to be of a double diamond lay-out
- Both wheels have to be the same size
- All tubes have to fit within a 80mm wide template, except near the joints where more room is allowed
- A credit card has to fit between the seattube and the tire. Don't jam it through, as the official may not try that either. Just play it safe, and if there is any trouble sliding the credit card through, move the wheel a millimeter further back. A 3mm gap will enable a credit card to slip through without a problem (2.1mm should do it theoretically). The horizontal drop-outs of our TT bikes enable the rider to achieve the appropriate gap irrespective of the size of tire used.
Several national federations are working on a grace period so that people with old bikes can still compete in events. But this grace period will likely only apply to bikes purchased before January 1, 2000, so if you are looking to buy a new bike, please ensure that your bike is approved by the UCI. And for more information on a grace period, contact your own national federation. The link below will show you the UCI approval of our models. To make sure things go smoothly at the pre-race technical inspection, you can print this out and present it to the commissaires. Be sure to print it in grayscale and high quality for proper reproduction of the drawings. Click here to view the UCI approval.
